An active political period of the parliamentary election campaign started in Belarus. On July 15, all the district election commissions began their work, BelTA learnt from Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Lidia Yermoshina.
“The formation of the district election commissions is a crucial stage of the current political campaign. The main bodies determining the course of the elections have already been set up. It is the responsibility of district election commissions, not the CEC, to count the votes in every constituency,” Lidia Yermoshina underlined.
According to Lidia Yermoshina, the process of nomination of members of district election commissions was dynamic, the political parties and public association took an active part in the process. Lidia Yermoshina said that the past experience in organizing elections was one of the selection criteria. “A district election commission is a high election body. It should include the people who are honest, respected and professional,” Lidia Yermoshina said.
District election commissions for the elections of deputies of the House of Representatives of the fourth convocation have been formed with maximally full compliment of members.
In accordance with the legislation, a district election commission includes 9-13 members.
