Minsk oblast to commemorate 20th anniversary of Soviet troops’ withdrawal from Afghanistan
The events timed to the 20th anniversary of the withdrawal of the Soviet troops from Afghanistan will be held in all the regions of the Minsk oblast on February 13-15, BelTA learnt from the ideology department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee.
Solemn meetings, awards ceremonies and exhibitions will be held in towns and villages of the Minsk oblast. Expositions dedicated to soldiers-internationalists will open in Negoreloe secondary school No1 and Dzerzhinsk grammar school No1. The Luban Museum of People’s Glory will present an exhibition timed to the event as well. Participants of the combat operations in Afghanistan will meet with local students.
Special meetings and flower laying ceremonies will be organized at the monuments to soldiers-internationalists in some villages of the Slutsk region. The town of Zhodino will host the book exhibition dedicated to the Afghan war. The action “Your are in my heart, Afghanistan” will be held in schools of the Myadel region under the auspices of the Belarusian Union of Veterans of the Afghan War, the Belarusian Union of Officers and the Myadel Regional Military Enlistment Office.
More than 4,000 veterans of the Afghan war live in the Minsk oblast. Some 121 families of the oblast lost their sons, husbands and fathers.
