Stanislav Chadovich has won Belarus’ first medal at the 2014 European Weightlifting Championships that are underway in Israel\'s capital Tel Aviv. In the under 62 kg weight category he bagged silver, BelTA has learnt.

21-year-old Stanislav Chadovich lifted 293 kg (135 in the snatch + 158 in the clean and jerk). The rest of the podium belonged to Bulgaria. Gold was won by Ivaylo Filev, with 299 kg (136 + 163) while Stoyan Enev claimed bronze with 286 kg (126 +160).

In the women\'s competition 19-year-old Yulia Asayonok took 9th place in the under 48kg weight category with 152 kg (70 + 82). Genny Pagliaro of Italy won gold after lifting 180 kg (82 + 98).

In other weight categories Belarus will be represented by Andrei Aryamnov (105 kg), Irina Mishchuk (58 kg) and Dina Sazanovets (69 kg). If Andrei Aryamnov features in the competition, it will be his first tournament after a four-year hiatus. Injuries have recently marred this athlete’s career. Last time he took part in high-level competitions was at the 2010 European Weightlifting Championship in Minsk. Back then, the athlete won gold but was then deprived of the medal because he tested positive for banned substances. He was disqualified for 6 months. After that he was included in the list of participants of all high-level tournaments but de facto did not take part in them.

The 2014 European Weightlifting Championships are not the qualifying competition for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil. Winners of Olympic licenses will be known after the 2014 World Weightlifting Championships due in November.
