MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – World No.98 Olga Govortsova of Belarus battled through Germany’s Julia Goerges (World No.92) 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to reach the Sony Open Tennis main draw in Miami, BelTA has learnt.
In the first match of the qualification round the Belarusian took a solid 6-2, 6-1 victory over World No.110 Shelby Rogers.
In the opener of the main competitions in Miami Olga Govortsova will take on Shahar Peer of Israel (88). They have held seven encounters before. Four victories were claimed by the Israeli player, with Olga Govortsova taking three wins. The winner of the current match will face Italy’s Flavia Pennetta (12).
World No.4 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus has withdrawn from the tournament due to the foot injury. All the rest from the WTA top ten rankings will take part in the competitions. Defending champion Serena Williams of the United States will eye her seventh title of the tournament.
