Belarus’ economy day due in France in autumn

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) - The day of Belarusian economy will be held in autumn 2014, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich told reporters, BelTA has learnt.

MINSK, 6 February (BelTA) - The day of Belarusian economy will be held in autumn 2014, Deputy Chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Vladimir Ulakhovich told reporters, BelTA has learnt.

«We are going to hold the day of Belarusian economy. It will be of a similar scale as the recent event held in Germany. It will take place in H2 2014, most probably in autumn,» Vladimir Ulakhovich said. Talks with the French side on this matter are underway.

Vladimir Ulakhovich said that the economy ministries of the two countries are developing cooperation. «Yesterday’s opening ceremony of the Franco-Belarusian business club proves the fact that the French side is interested in developing such cooperation,» he noted.

On 6 February the BCCI, jointly with the Franco-Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is holding a round-table session with representatives of French companies who visited Belarus as part of the French business delegation. The initiative to hold such a meeting came from the French side. «The major goal of the visit is to find points of contact between the interests of Belarusian businessmen and those of our French guests,» Vladimir Ulakhovich said. He noted that Minsk is going to present a number of promising investment projects in the field of infrastructure. «The goal of Belarusian businessmen is to achieve balance in our trade. We do not boast trade surplus but we have capabilities for it,» said Vladimir Ulakhovich.

At the opening ceremony of the business club France-Belarus on 5 February Belarus’ Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to France Pavel Latushko said that trade between Belarus and France had approached $600 million last year, up 15% on the previous year. At the same time, according to Pavel Latushko, this figure does not correspond to the potential of the two countries. This is why joint efforts will be aimed at increasing Belarusian-French trade turnover. Various mechanisms are used to address the matter, including mutual visits of business delegations. Last year Belarus presented its investment capabilities in Paris and other French cities.
