Belarus’ flag raised at Olympic village in Sochi

MOSCOW, 5 February (BelTA) – The official ceremony of raising the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus at the 22nd Winter Olympics took place at Mountain Olympic Village in Sochi on 5 February 2014, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia.

MOSCOW, 5 February (BelTA) – Belarus’ national flag has been hoisted in the Olympic Sochi. The official ceremony of raising the State Flag of the Republic of Belarus at the 22nd Winter Olympics took place at Mountain Olympic Village in Sochi on 5 February 2014, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Embassy of Belarus in Russia.

The symbolic event was held by Mayor of the village, Olympic champion, Russian skier Svetlana Zhurova. Attending the ceremony was First Vice President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Belarus Igor Rachkovsky, Chef de Mission of Belarus, Deputy Secretary General, Head of the NOC Olympic Movement Department Dmitry Dovgalyonok, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko, athletes and media.

The Belarusian delegation also attended an intercessory prayer service in the Church of the Savior’s Holy Image led by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.

The 22nd Winter Olympics in Sochi will be held on 7-23 February. The Olympics will feature 98 medal events in 7 sports.

The Mountain Village is the largest of the three Olympic villages and will house almost 3,000 athletes and delegates in the sports of skiing, bobsleigh, freestyle skiing, luge, Nordic combined, skeleton, ski jumping and snowboarding. There is an international zone at the village for meetings with media representatives, VIPs and visitors. Transport connection is available 24/7 inside the village as well as with main competition facilities.
