MINSK, 27 January (BelTA) - MAZ was named one of the top five automakers at Dakar 2014 after a three-year history of the Belarusian team’s participation in this rally marathon, Belarusian pilot Sergei Vyazovich told reporters after the MAZ-SPORTauto team returned to Belarus, BelTA has learnt.
“The best makes of vehicles are MAZ, KAMAZ, MAN, Tatra and Iveco. So we are among the world’s top five automakers. This is great considering just a three-year history of our participation,” the pilot said.
He also noted that the major result of the Belarusian team is that they showed that they are competitive. “Of course, we will aim for a podium finish in the future. Any sportsman wants to assure everyone that he is the best. One should not go into sport without this ambition,” Sergei Vyazovich underlined.
Sergei Vyazovich added that this year’s rally was special because of its long distance. “We were a bit unlucky but the result is better than those we showed previously. Next year we should return and prove that we are stronger than people think,” he said.
