Belarus, China to set up trade and logistics center

SHENZHEN, 22 January (BelTA) – Belarus and China agreed to set up a joint trade and logistics center, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said in an interview with China Daily in Beijing, BelTA has learnt.

SHENZHEN, 22 January (BelTA) – Belarus and China agreed to set up a joint trade and logistics center, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said in an interview with China Daily in Beijing, BelTA has learnt.

“We have agreed with Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang to set up a transport and logistics center. We have not decided on the location yet, but I think it may be on of the airports at the border with the European Union - Brest or Grodno Oblasts,” the Belarusian head of government said.

The Belarusian official believes that it would be a new approach for Chinese goods reaching not only Belarus but also Europe via efficiently developed logistics routes.

In this respect Mikhail Myasnikovich invited Chinese companies to take an active part in the implementation of this project in order to advance the interests of Chinese producers.

The Belarusian head of state also touched upon other projects under implementation with the Asian partner. “In particular, Chinese companies are taking part in road construction projects. A $400 million project is currently underway. A number of documents will be signed in the near future on electrification of some parts of the Belarusian railway with the help of China’s $170 million loan,” the Premier noted.

Domestic procedures on the purchase of another batch of Chinese locomotives are nearing completion.
