There will be no new decisions regarding the retirement age in Belarus, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said as he visited the Minsk Leather Production Association in Gatovo, Minsk District on 23 March, BelTA has learned.
"We have made all decisions and will move forward accordingly," the Belarusian leader stressed when asked by one of the employees about the possibility of another increase in the retirement age.
Retirement age may be, for example, 50, Aleksandr Lukashenko noted. "But we must remember that it is our children who will support us after 50," the head of state noted.
Accordingly, contributions to the pension fund would increase. "But no mother, no father would ever suggest their daughter or son pay for them. They would rather work for 3-5 more years," the president said.
"I am from a humble background, an ordinary family. My mother was a milkmaid, and I know what this life is about. I milked cows for 10 years myself. But we should not pass our problems on to children. Who knows how lives of our children will turn out. This is the thing. Not because we want to ‘rip off people'," the Belarusian leader stressed.
"We have made all the decisions [on retirement age]. I will be a pensioner myself soon. Do you think I want to work until 80 and retire past 80 and trip over while boarding a plane?" Aleksandr Lukashenko said.
