Polish business to partake in privatization of Belarus’ companies
MINSK, February 23 (BelTA) – Polish businessmen are interested in taking part in the privatization of Belarusian enterprises, Waldemar Pawlak, Vice Premier and Economy Minister of Poland told reporters in Minsk on February 23.
“Polish businessmen intend to take part in the privatization which is underway in Belarus, there are already good examples of this cooperation,” the Polish Vice Premier said. He noted that at the meeting with Vice-Premier of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov in Minsk the sides discussed the details of the Polish participation in the privatization in Belarus. Waldemar Pawlak informed that the Polish Agency for Foreign Investment may provide assistance to Belarus.
According to Andrei Kobyakov, privatization is only part of the policy to attract investment in Belarus. For example, free tourist zones are being set up in Belarus where Polish entrepreneurs can invest, too. Apart from that, Polish investors take part in the implementation of projects in Belarusian small towns where they are offered considerable taxation preferences. The most ambitious project is the construction of a coal-fired power plant in the town of Zelva (Grodno oblast). “This is a very promising project involving huge investment,” Andrei Kobyakov said.
A reminder, Belarus and Poland agreed on the implementation of a joint project to set up a coal-fired power plant in the town of Zelva at the Belarus’ Investment Forum in London. The Polish side is represented by the company Kulczyk Holding.
