Myasnikovich criticizes slow pace of pork production recovery in Belarus

The head of government made this statement as he visited the construction site of one of the livestock breeding complexes in Minsk Oblast

Belarusian PM Mikhail Myasnikovich has criticized a slow pace in restoring pork production volumes in Belarus. The head of government made this statement as he visited the construction site of one of the livestock breeding complexes in Minsk Oblast on 14 October, BelTA learnt from the Belarus 1 TV Channel.

“The current gain in weight is low and does not meet the potential we have,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. In his words all necessary decisions were made. Production volumes have been determined and the country has the relevant funds. According to him, the proper organization of work is of major significance at this point, which will positively affect the prices for pig production in the country.

A slow pace in restoring the pork production volumes affects the performance of meat-packing plants. This leads to the underuse of the capacity of the plants. Raw material is needed for more productive work, which means that the development of the domestic raw material base is task number one for the country.

According to the Premier, the country has been working hard to rectify the situation, including measures to develop the livestock breeding complex in Minsk Oblast the Belarusian PM visited yesterday. Mikhail Myasnikovich was informed that all building and assembling works would be completed in late November 2014. The adjusting and startup procedures will be finished in December. Tenders are held to purchase a pig stock.

According to the Belarus 1 TV Channel, the construction of new livestock breeding complexes is just one measure to address the issue. The country needs a quality breakthrough in the industry. Perhaps there is a need to revise the animal feeding system.
