MINSK, 2 April (BelTA) - The first car assembled jointly with General Motors will roll off the assembly line in Belarus on 3 July. The matter was discussed at the meeting of Belarusian Foreign Minister Vladimir Makei with a delegation headed by General Motors Russia and CIS President and Managing Director Andy Dunstan, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
The sides exchanged opinions on the status of implementation of the investment project to create a facility to assemble cars in Belarus under the auspices of the joint venture ZAO Unison.
The company General Motors and their Belarusian partner have plans to manufacture the first car on 3 July 2014. This event will be timed to the 70th anniversary of liberation of Belarus from the Nazis.
General Motors and its partners assemble cars in 30 countries. The company is the leader of the car market, the largest and the fastest-developing market in the world. General Motors owns such brands as Chevrolet, Cadillac, Baojun, Buiсk, GMC, Holden, Isuzu, Jiefang, Opel, Vauxhall and Wuling. The company has been producing Chevrolet, Opel and Cadillac cars in Russia since 1992.
The joint venture Unison is located in the village of Obchak 10km away from Minsk. The company was founded as a Belarusian-British joint venture Ford Union in 1996. In 2000 it was re-incorporated into ZAO Unison. The company has been assembling a number of automobile brands, including Ford, KIA, and Samand for over 15 years.
