MINSK, 8 January (BelTA) - Belarus needs to tighten control over the use of public money and public property, Chairman of the State Control Committee Alexander Yakobson said when introducing the new head of the Grodno Office of the State Control Committee (SCC) Vasily Gerasimov in Grodno, BelTA learnt from the SCC press service. Alexander Yakobson expressed confidence that the expertise of Vasily Gerasimov, who headed the main expert and legal department of the SCC Central Office for more than nine years, his professional capacity, the ability to think outside the box and be creative in solving problems will ensure high-quality work of the SCC regional office. The SCC head identified a number of priority tasks. In particular, he noted the need for more work in addressing socio-economic issues at the regional level, to enhance control over the use of public money and public property. Alexander Yakobson underscored that one of the ways to improve the efficiency is to strengthen cooperation with local authorities and law enforcement agencies. Vasily Gerasimov, for his part, noted that the focus of the SCC Grodno Office will be on the use of public funds, control over the compliance with tax laws. Great importance will be given to preventive work. This approach is already yielding results: year after year the number of inspections is reduced, while audit activities have a greater effect. Alexander Yakobson also held a meeting with senior officials of the Department of Financial Investigations at the State Control Committee for Grodno Oblast. He pointed out to the shortcomings in the work of the financial police in the past year and set a number of priority tasks. The head of the State Control Committee urged to step up work in detecting organized criminal groups and noted the need for improvement of the preventive effort.
