Belarus\' new gypsum plant to export its products to Western Europe

President of Volma Company Alexander Malashkin told after the official time-capsule laying ceremony at the construction site of the plant

There are plans to export the products of a new gypsum plant in Gatovo, Belarus to Western Europe, President of Volma Company Alexander Malashkin told media after the official time-capsule laying ceremony at the construction site of the plant on 7 October, BelTA has learned.

“We should build a modern plant in Belarus taking into account the latest approaches and technologies in order to work for both your country and the Western market. We do not work for Europe from Russia, but we would like to work for Europe from Belarus. It is just 300km from the Baltic states, Poland is nearby. We believe we should build the plant taking into consideration prospects in Western Europe,” noted Alexander Malashkin.

In turn, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Volma Company Yuri Goncharov stressed that the construction of a new plant is not a simple project from the economic point of view. “It is not the best time for return on investment. However, on the other hand, looking into the future we understand that the Belarusian construction sector has a big potential,” he explained.

The annual output of the plant is 30 million square meters of gypsum. “These are big capacities. Today Belarus consumes 12 million square meters of gypsum. That means we will cover the country\'s needs in the product two and a half times. Our main objective is to prove the Belarusian construction industry that gypsum materials are most efficient in terms of energy performance, environmental friendliness and economy,” said Yuri Goncharov.

The construction of a gypsum plant in Gatovo is another stage of a large-scale investment project implemented by the international company Volma in cooperation with the Belarusian government. The plant that will produce building materials will be fitted with the latest technologies. The annual designed capacities will make up 30 million square meters of gypsum boards, 500,000 square meters of gypsum partition blocks, 100,000 tonnes of dry building mixes. The company will create 180 new jobs.
